asoiafuniversity: @mightyisobel: The King Under the Mountain is a worldwide archetype that stretches as far into history as memory, and is a powerful archetype George R. R. Martin is using in his A Song of Ice and Fire series to deepen the mystery surrounding certain characters he has created. In this essay, I hope to... Continue Reading →
Forged in Fire and Ice: Scratching the Surface
tomakeitbeautifultolive: iane-casey: Damned fool that he was, he had excused himself when the opportunity had presented itself. He should have kissed her, tasted her lips once more, allowed her to wrap him in her heat. Other men would not have thought twice. He should have taken her then and there, wordlessly told her he felt... Continue Reading →
Is Ramsay Bolton considered a prisoner of war? Ive seen for the millionth time someone who loves Sansa criticize Daenerys for burning the Tarley’s but I’m not sure that I see a difference bw that and Sansa having dogs eat Ramsay who was held hostage after a battle. Sansa had a personal reason to hate him but is it enough of a difference to cheer Sansa on and then call Daenerys evil?
instantbouquetface-me: Olenna Tyrell was an even clearer POW, who did not offer any physical resistance. Jaime did not give her the choice to bend the knee at all. Dany’s offer is not unusual at all by Westerosi standards. After the Battle of the Blackwater, Tywin (who was the one running the show and was in... Continue Reading →
The Dragon and the Wolf
oadara: For the most part, I’ve liked the episode titles on Game of Thrones, although I ’m probably in the minority in this. Most of the episode titles, if not all, have a double meaning, which got me thinking about the episode titles that relate to the difference Houses in Westeros. Not the House words, but... Strange readings and unintended consequences… Jon giving Winterfell away
instantbouquetface-me: When the Ravens arrive Government is not about castles… it’s about people… but man are castles convenient… Bemused? Of course… Maternal concerns 2,000 years later at the Citadel In response to a request from @tatticstudio55 … I hope this covers what you asked for BETTER THAN EXPECTED EVEN!!!!
In your bingo, you said that Dany will kill Drogon. Why do you say this?
I guess it’s a hunch… First, because while I believe Dany will get pregnant, I don’t think she can carry a healthy child to term while her dragons are still alive. It was part of the “price” to hatch them. At some point, I expect Dany to be forced to chose between the life of her... Continue Reading →
It’s annoying that the tarlys are getting so much credit. It’s like defying Dany is a good characteristic. No one wants to talk about how the Tarly Heir decided to pick pleasing his father over his duty as an heir but the one that was highlighted was his honor. Welp didn’t matter anyway… In the end as Dany said “She has fewer enemies today. “
chrringoftheprintingmachine: oadara: cheesekimbapshyshyshy: I’m actually quite surprised cause like you I expected so much hate towards Dany…as usual. But I’ve seen more and more people understanding where she was coming from. Saying that she did give them many chances to bend the knee. That she took no joy in what she did. And basically understanding... Continue Reading →
Hi, I’ve been reading your Dany and Jon asks and I am really curious why you think the political!jon/ucl theory goes against the themes of the books? Thanks!
turtle-paced: “It was the cold,” Gared said with iron certainty. “I saw men freeze last winter, and the one before, when I was half a boy. Everyone talks about snows forty foot deep, and how the ice wind comes howling out of the north, but the real enemy is the cold.” - Prologue, AGoT The... Continue Reading →
If Daenerys is “serenade”…
(and P.S kudos again to whoever made that observation… :)Then “Naerys” is “siren” (another song/singing related word)I bet there’s a bunch of Easter eggs in asoiaf names 😀
Hi!!! Totally random question here (you can laugh at me if you want…) but I was thinking… so J and D are on a boat to White Harbor and keeping company to each other every night, but at some point, they’ll have to, er, wash? How do you get a proper wash on a boat????
instantbouquetface-me: Not really sure on the details of Westerosi (or Essosi since most of Dany’s fleet may be Essosi) ship building, but they seem to have better hygiene than our medieval ages. I suppose the ships probably do carry a supply of fresh water. It can drain straight into the sea (just like other less... Continue Reading →
